Black and White Challenge Day 4 of 5

Willow Tree

“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity… and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.”
― William Blake

I love Trees, maybe its in my heritage. Trees have always been important in the spiritual history of Ireland. Sacred trees were planted in the sites of holy wells, and churches were built where sacred trees were. In fact back in ye old times according to Brehon law the punishment for felling a Chieftian tree could be as serious as the punishment for killing a person. Dramatic much? Yes we Irish take our trees seriously!!

But, taking it to now adays.. do you notice how much calmer you feel after a walk in the woods. Myself and my friend Lisa have often talked about how much better we feel after walking in woods and listening to the trees. Now I’m not saying go hug them, well if you want to do.. but get out and breathe in some fresh air and one always feels better. Last year when I was having a sucky time, Lisa brought me off for a zillon walks in the woods. I always felt the better for it, even when I didnt want to go.

Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.

John Muir

But before this, I’ve always loved trees and even did my fouth year project on them.. their bare branches are like veins when you look up at them. When they have leaves, the sun fights to get through to shine in your face.. I love them in any season.

My favorite tree is the Cherry blossom but I am always taking photos of that, so for this challenge I am using a photo of a Willow tree in Lisas garden. Its coming to the end of daffodil season here so I just caught the end of them.. the wind will blow them all to smitherins soon but they are pretty while they last. Imagine sitting under this tree on this lovely bench curled up with a book. I can see why Lisa has her brekkie in this garden so much. Beautiful! Maybe not to sit in for long when this photo was taken -its a bit windy right now in Clonmel.

Today I nominate M Funk Photography. Great site check it out

The rules of the Black and White challenge are:

1) To post a photo every day for 5 days
2) To write a story to accompany your photo for 5 days (this can be fiction or non-fiction, a page, a paragraph or a poem)
3) To nominate a different person each day

Its all a bit of fun so no pressure, its only if you feel like it.

Enjoy

I especially like the texture of the first photo..how the tree seems to consume the composition. Interesting enough, the patch of flowers at the bottom feel like they have a life of their own.

Lovely images, quotes and story! That’s a nice spot for a bench under the willow. I hope to see some daffodils and cherry blossoms soon as well. I agree with you about a walk in the woods. Very calming and comforting 🙂
