Ireland is having weather commitment issues at the moment.. it wants both summer and winter in its life at the same time.. Hence we have been enjoying blasting sun, followed by torrential downpour. This means summer dresses and wet ground…. Continue reading

Oil pastel sketch

As for you girls, you must risk everything for Freedom, and give everything for Passion, loving everything that your hearts and your bodies love. The only thing higher for a girl and more sacred for a young woman than her freedom and her passion should be her desire to make her life into poetry, surrendering everything she has to create a life as beautiful as the dreams that dance in her imagination. – Roman Payne

God I’ve not tried the oil pastel for a while, this is on artset, quick sketch to test the waters, wanted to keep it quick, strong and dynamic.

More practice needed to get back in swing of oils, I’ve never favoured them really as I like the softness of pastel usually but it’s good to switch things up 🙂 bit of gel pain thrown in.. Just cause I felt like it lol

Life Drawing studies…same.. same.. different?

It took me years to understand the magic of drawing. For years, I tried to make things look how they are – instead of being what they are. Drawing is an alchemic language. Some of my favourite drawings I have done with my eyes closed – or so drunk I do not remember making them.

Seated Woman, charcoal

Life drawing is fascinating. I know I keep saying this but I just love it. You can put a group of artists around the same figure and there will be that moment at the end where everyone turns their easel around (unless it was just us that did that!?!) and you are looking at totally different paintings.. how can we all see everything so differently?? Step by step through a portrait

I had loads of fun doing this portrait. Part of my process is to take photos on my iPhone throughout my painting. This helps me separate the painting from the surrounding studio and let’s me see how it’s progressing…Just a step up from standing back far away from a painting. Continue reading

Black and White Challenge Day 4 of 5

Willow Tree

“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity… and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.”
― William Blake

I love Trees, maybe its in my heritage. Trees have always been important in the spiritual history of Ireland. Sacred trees were planted in the sites of holy wells, and churches were built where sacred trees were. In fact back in ye old times according to Brehon law the punishment for felling a Chieftian tree Continue reading
