Ruby meets Ruby 🙂

This is Ruby. Isnt she a cutie? She is a Cavachon and the most chilled out dog I have met.

Sinead came to me to get a painting of her done for her parents, as they adore their little doggie.

She was struggling to think of what to get them for their anniversary until she saw another dog painting I had done and thought they would love this.

Its so hard to think of what to get as a painting for someone.

Getting one of a beloved dog is such a great idea as they are just so cute, they mean something to you but will still look fab on the wall to someone who doesnt know your pup.

Ruby

I decided to do a step by step as people are often wondering how a painting is built. Every artist approaches this differently.. well here is my way.. not the right way.. not the wrong way…but interesting to see.

People often walk in part way through a painting and I want to go NOOOOOO it will look great please dont judge it on this … this is for them to see there is plan in my head I swear 🙂

Anyway, below is a step by step of the progression of this fun painting.

This is the Photo of Ruby I worked From. She is so cute!

Outline of Features in a lighter colour

As its Acrylic i usually work in the dark sections first espcially as this is going to be quite white on top

Adding in the darker sections and bulding the face

Adding the pop of colour, decided on green to giver her happy garden feel. it helps make sure i have the face shape right and i want the green in close so i can flick out the white hair over and have it come through

Adding in the browns, again doing all these layers so they pop through the whites in the end

Browns and almost purle blue shading of hair to add depth, adding shadows near ears and darkening grass

Adding some white to pop the eyes and some strong brown on mouth.

Darkening sections at neck base of ear and adding some colours to eyes. all will be covered in more hair so they need to be dark.

Ruby has spikey wild hair at top so added that texture and more brown to offset the whiter tones coming. in the photo her badge is down here but it looked lost in painting when i put it here so i moved it up after seeing it here

Darkening the eyes and adding depth of browns

New badge and new layers of white. her lovely fluffiness starts to pop

You can see my lighter colour brushstrokes on the head at left against the brown compared to right.

Usually i print of photo but i forgot where i left it and worked from my ipad and it was actually handy as i can zoom in. just took the autolock off and turned the radio on 🙂

i use a large piece of glass for my paint.. its messy and dried up but i love it 🙂

Isn’t she a cutie!

Finished piece. She is exactly what i wanted a fun cute and colourful painting. i love the hairy animals they are such fun to paint!

Finished Piece waiting in the kitchen to be collected. i left it out as i loved the smile it gave me whenever i walked into the room!
